We Got a WINNER!

We've chosen the winner for Caption the Card #5. Check out Tom Bell's clever eight words

Send it at: Hipstercards.com Caption the Card winners

P.S. We have a new contest starting next week. I won't give away the theme but think helmet hair circa 1970.

New! Caption the Card

It's time for the next Caption the Card contest so here goes. Submit your catchy caption (10 words or less) for this very strange/erotic/exotic/bizarre image from photographer Ed Fox (www.edfox.com) in the comments below and you have a chance to win a few minutes of fame along with some choice Rolling Stone's CD's and assorted merch. Rules are below and be sure to spread the word...

CAPTION THE CARD: WINNER!!

Well, this was a toughie. There were so many wonderfully strange, sick and twisted messages (plus a few sweet ones) that it was hard to choose a winner. But here you go. Congrats to Mat who submitted the caption. He gets a bunch of Rolling Stones swag and CD's (courtesy of my boyfriend and ABKCO records, hey thanks!)

Next card is a real strange image. Think woman in a body hugging unitard taking out the trash..keep checking back to see the image and submit your caption

LAST DAY TO ENTER!!! CAPTION THE CARD! #4

Hey everybody, there is only a DAY left to enter your message in the Caption the Card contest. Besides getting your name on the card and your 3 minutes of fame I have a boxed set of Rolling Stones CD's plus exclusive Stone's t-shirts and other memorbilia (courtesy of my friend who has the Stones connection)

Some of the current contenters:

Thank goodness for toxic-free crayons.
Look Honey, She Peed! Proud Parents of a Child Actor
Great, She's finally asleep! Time for the orgy!
"I told you honey, drinking and drawing just don't mix!"
You were right, honey... barbiturates were the way to go.
It's been seven hours Mom, buy the vacuum or fuck the guy already.

P.S. Rules are as follows. One caption per person. Must be 10 words or less. Submit by posting in the comments section. Contest ends May 10. If your message is chosen you get credit on the card (check out the Pajama party eCard in the Random section that Elizabeth submitted and won the first contest) plus some Rolling Stone's CD's

We have a WINNER----Caption the Card

After a great dinner of spaghetti and Chianti the creative brain trust here at HipsterCards.com has chosen a winner....Leigh Ann Harr's submission of

P.S. Rules are as follows. One caption per person. Must be 10 words or less. Submit by posting in the comments section. Contest ends Friday April 1st. We have a WINNER----Caption the Card

After much arguing (and drinking of much vino) we have chosen

"No Clowning Around...I worked hard to get an ass this small" submitted by Lisa to be the winner of Caption the Card 2

Other popular captions included:

"Kiss my black ass, Whitey" by Chris A

"Learning the truth about the family isn't easy" by Dennis

Last two days to post your message for the Caption the Card Contest

Almost 30 brave souls have submitted a message to accompany the clown & pony (or is a donkey?) image. Somehow ASS seems to be the overwhelming theme. The contest ends Friday night and the winner will be announced (and the eCard posted) on Monday.

Caption The Card...Second Image

In celebration of the launch this week of the Strange Clowns collection we have posted what I believe is one of the weirdest clown images we found. Now we need a snappy message. Dig deep and submit!
Enjoy, Lynda

CAPTION THE CARD...here we go

Hello from LA. We've extended the deadline for the submission of a caption to this Friday, March 4th. And to sweeten the pot I will send to the lucky winner a Rolling Stones compilation CD set courtesy of my dear boyfriend who as they say in showbiz..has "connections"

We've gotten some amazing captions ranging from semi obscene to way weird. Keep 'em coming. P.S. The next card is all about strange clowns...just to get your creative juices flowing.

Here again is the scoop: Enter your message in the comments section along with your name and email. There are only two rules. 1, the message can be no longer than 10 words and 2, you can only enter one time per image.
A team here at HipsterCards including me, Asterios--an advisory board member and TV comedy writer, plus assorted other folks will be judging the entries and a winner will be announced Sat. March 5th and the card will go on the site on March 1st with your name credited on the image.
Let it rip....

Caption the Card---PREVIEW

Greetings friends. We are just about to start the Caption the Card contest and wanted to give the folks who visit the blog a peek at the image so that over the weekend when you are sloshed or stoned you can be thinking of just the right 10 words to make the photo come to life. We will be launching the contest early next week so keep checking back for the start date.

Caption this Card!

I've been getting lots of feedback these last few weeks about why we don't create some interactive eCards. Not to worry...we are working on a bunch of new features including a DIY (do-it-yourself) flash card creator which should launch in March.

We also know that many of you are much better writers than me and the friends I rope in to help design the cards. To give you a chance to show how clever you can be we will be adding a new feature on the HipsterCards blog next week which will allow anyone to submit a caption to one of the wacky/weird photos we have collected. One caption will be selected and the person who wrote the blurb will get be credited on the eCard which will be featured on the site.

Vote Cards

Way back in October when we really thought we had a chance for regime change Hipster Cards was all about sending eCards to encourage people to get out and VOTE! This is one of the cards created by one of the many talented designers who contributed. Damn, now I'm sad again.

Visit: http://www.hipstercards.com/
none of the Vote cards are still on the site....

BlogHer conference--Design Session

I will be leading a session on blog design at the BlogHer conference on July 30th. Do let me know if you are attending...it will be great to meet in person and if you are a graphic designer who designs and develops blogs definitely get in touch with me (lkeeler@yahoo.com) so I can feature your work during the session. Here's info on the session:

Grab ‘em by the eyeballs:
Use visual design to enhance, engage and keep them coming back.
You don’t have to be a graphic designer or even have an advanced design sensibility to incorporate design elements that will create a more easy to use blog. Designs elements ranging from layout to icons to photography are easy to find and with most blog templates easy to integrate.
Good design encourages more readers, more interaction, more return visitors and more referrals. It also allows you to create an identity for you and the blog that will be memorable in a visual sense rather than only through your writing. It’s not about being pretty it’s about capturing attention and giving your readers the chance to quickly scan and decide what’s new, what’s interesting and what to spend time on.
The Room of her Own will be a give and take and show some of the best examples of how blogs have used design to heighten the experience. We’ll show some before and after case studies and share resources of blog designers, design elements, template creators and other tools that help create a visually exciting experience that showcases your personal style. Not being a designer I encourage design professionals to join in with me to lead the session.

BlogHer.org--I'm going, are you?

On July 30th a group of women bloggers will be gathering in Santa Clara for the first BlogHer conference.  Want to join in?  Info on the conference is below and you'll be able to meet, hear and connect with a fantastic range of top bloggers.  I've been tapped to lead a discussion on design and will be recruiting designers, artists and blogger who have created blogs incorporating great design.  I'll post tomorrow on the details of the session.

Where are the women bloggers? We're right here. . . www.blogher.org

This flagship event is open to all bloggers—including men and beginners—interested in enhancing their online exposure, learning the latest best practices in blogging, networking with other bloggers, and specifically cultivating the female blogging community.

BlogHer Conference '05 will provide an open, inclusive forum to:

1. Discuss the role of women within the larger blog community
2. Examine the developing (and debatable) code of blogging ethics
3. Discover how blogging is shrinking the world and amplifying the voices of women worldwide

Plus:

1. Best technology practices, newbie to advanced: how to use technology and tools to achieve text, photo, audio and video blogging goals
2. Best industry-specific practices: Why are journalists, marketers, lawyers, academics, technologists and many more blogging? And how do you find the ones you're interested in?
3. The rights and the responsibilities of the blogger

Clown Mother's Day eCards

After looking at the set of cards for Mother's Day I realized that we need a few more offbeat styles.  More are on their way but I thought everyone would enjoy the Clown eCards....your mom will either love a clown eCard or it will freak her out!

More Mother's Day (free!) eCards

We are almost finished posting our Mother's Day ecards but a few are still trickling in. I really like these two, especially the Mother's Wisdom---echos of my Mom! Thanks to Alison for the clever writing and to Chris for the clever design.

For Grandma and someone lucky to have two moms

If you have two mom's or want to show your love to your grandmother we have a couple fun cards.

Just a few more Mother's Day eCards

We have a few graphic, pop, retro and kinda 60's style eCards just for your dear ol' mom...

Even more free Mother's Day eCards

This card is a special one...it's of my brothers (Mike and Andrew) and me posing way back in the 70's for the annual family photo. While many people think we are a bit weird I think (well...hope!) that our darling mom thinks we are a bit charming as well.

Yet more Mother's Day free eCards!

Here are a few more Mother's Day eCards designed by Melanie's Photoshop magic....free to send as usual! The "Thanks for being there...to share the ups and downs of motherhood" is perfect to send to your friend who is there for you at playdates, lunch dates and is always available on the phone!

We Have a WINNER--Caption the Card

After a great dinner of spaghetti and Chianti the creative brain trust here at HipsterCards.com has chosen a winner....Leigh Ann Harr's submission of

Everyone needs a Sign....

We have a few useful but clever ecards that feature all the classic Danger, Caution, Notice and Warning alerts but with a twist.

I'm also looking for a clever writer to help craft some of these style cards but with a twist...say, Danger! Girl's Gossiping, Warning! Asshole Boss Approaching (see this is why I need your help...I'm pathetic)..if you think you can come up with some clever text send me a note at lynda@hipstercards.com. No money for your quip but a bit of fame!

Feeling under the weather?

We've dug up some retro 70's style designs for our new section, Get Well or Feel Better (we don't know quite what to call it since there will be eCards to send to a friend who is just having a bad day...any suggestions?) that we hope you'll dig.

Happy Togetherness

Lori, a very talented artist in Florida (can you see the connection?) has just designed two fun couple eCards celebrating the old adage....birds of a feather flock together...or something like that.

New Baby eCards

We've just posted a few sweet, vintage style new baby eCards. Just the thing to send to a friend who've expanded their family.

Welcome to your new home

When a friend moves to their new digs it's nice to send them a note saying...hey, what's your new address?

Dope eCards

There's nothing like a dope (Pot, grass, weed, bud, jay, reefer, joint, ganja, herb, dope, smoke, boo ya, red hair, chronic, the green, the kind, mary jane, skunk, sens, thai sticks, maui wowie, J, hooter, toke, yesca, budah, bionic, shwag, indica, mex, herbage, doobage, wacky tobacky, hemp, THC, indo, homegrown, hydro, and doobie) eCard to kick out the weekend

New designs and styles

One of our designers, Sona, has designed some lovely eCards for birthday (a bit nasty but fun) and friendship messages including one that supports your friends going after what they want (tennis or otherwise!) and a very moody but touching "Miss You" card. Don't you just love the pup? Enjoy!

Springtime Happiness

I admit I am a happy camper now that Spring has arrived in force here in LA. After weeks, no months, of rain the city is bursting with flowers, birds, butterflies and very happy people walking the streets (well, since this is Los Angeles it's more likely that they are stuck in traffic but hopefully have their window's rolled down.) Melanie created a sexy and sweet eCard with just a touch of animation. Enjoy and look for more Spring eCards on the site over the next week.

The Black Series

We are balancing the fun, cheery, happy, shiny side of the site with these three new black eCards created by Chris (were you in a black funk?) Even though they look a bit foreboding and slightly goth they actually have very positive messages...if a bit cryptic.

Time for Sushi

Who doesn't like sushi and sake? Invite a friend to join you tonight or any night.

A Bunch of new eCards

We've added a "Let's Go..." category so that you can ping your pals to go for a hike, watch TV, get drunk, go bowling, celeb spot or go dancing. Lots of new eCards will be added over the next few weeks...if there is a card you'd like to see just leave a comment.
